Faith Over Fear
Fear. The worst of the worst and the enemy’s biggest and most popular weapons that he uses against us to push us away from our Lord. Worry, anxiety, fear… can overwhelm us all with a cover of thick darkness. This soon controls us, our moves and decisions.
So much of the “crazy” goes on just around us, which at times we have no control over. We have things all around us like wars, conflicts, persecutions, violence, crime, natural disasters, terrorism, economic uncertainty, unemployment, caner, and even deaths. We fear for the younger youth’s future, we fear for our families, we fear for our financial future, we fear for our safety, we fear for our health. The list goes on… There’s actually a TON we could potentially worry about.
But then again, reality tells us that so much of what we spend our time fearing or worrying about never actually happened. Living under the weight of “what if…” is a hard place to dwell. THAT’S the evil one trying to be sneaky and push you away from putting your faith first over fear.
I struggle with fear and worry all the time and have for a while! However, I began to fin that the thing since would have sent me down an anxious spiral, no longer had the same effect. It didn’t for a while AND there’s a reason!!
I brainwashed my thinking!! I read words of truth from our Father. I soaked them in over and over. I prayed about it out loud, in my own head, with my husband and friends. The continuous thinking “Faith over fear” soaked my mind and replaced my old thinking in my mind that I have always battled. (Some days harder said then done!) There’s nothing magical about words and verses, but there is power through them because there’re God’s words.
Change happens. It always will. Anxious thoughts go away and worries are let go. Fear is there, but no longer is being controlling, holding me back or paralyzing me. His words are “life” words, soothing to our souls, calming to our spirits, and gives us power to our days!
Like I said, some days are harder said then done. No one is perfect, but the moment you focus on God’s words it changes you!! It often comes down to a choice:
Choosing not to allow fear and anxiety to control you
Choose to guard your heart
Choosing to focus your mind on what is true in the midst of uncertaining
PRAY PRAY PRAY - the power of prayer takes you wonders.
On those harder days, we might still feel afraid, but when we believe that God is with us he is the only one that has control. We may not know what the future hold, but God does and that’s all that matters. Trust in the Lord for he has plans for us and always have faith over fear!
I have listed some favorite verses to remind us - We do not have to fear:
“Do not fear for I am with you.” -Isaiah 41:10
“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.” -1 John 4:18
“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you." - Psalm 56:3
“When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul.”
- Psalm 94:19
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” - Psalm 23:4
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” - Matthew 6:34
“Do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?” - Luke 12:22-26
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” - 2 Timothy 1:7
“Jesus told him, ‘Don’t be afraid; just believe.’” - Mark 5:36
