Travel Guide: Mammoth Mountains
As y’all know we traveled to Mammoth during December/January. It was so much fun! This travel post is a long time coming, but it’s worth every minute. I was shocked to know how GORGEOUS Mammoth mountain is. It was so much fun! I’m not a huge snowboarder myself, but I will do it a couple half day runs. Y’all looking back, I wish I did more. That’s how good the boarding/skiiing is. However, don’t get me wrong. I LOVED the village area too. Read more to see what I highly recommend when traveling to Mammoth Mountain.
Where to Stay?
I’m going to be honest with y’all it is on the pricy side. You can get a great room at the major resorts there, however I recommend finding a condo! You can actually save money going the apartment or condo route. If you don’t know any with a condo the ai B&Bs are very popular up there.
What to do if you’re not a snowboarder or skier?
The village is super fun and is enjoyable to walk around. It’s a little ski town with shops and places to eat. I would suggest grabbing a cup of Starbucks because we froze our booty’s off! Besides walking around the village I highly suggest going snowmobiling!! We had such a fun time doing it. I will be honest with y’all it’s not as easy as it looks. Needless to say, trees pop up in the middle of no where. Luckily, I didn’t crash into a tree, but another couple did. That’s probably why I went solo slooowww. When we finished, I was rewarded most improved. So you can image!
Where to eat?
Food is food. However, I highly recommend the breakfast place called The Stove. Keep in mind, there’s limited places to have breakfast, so count on an small wait. It’s worth it all!! Looking for a good place to have a cozy drink? I highly suggest Tamarack Lodge. It’s a drive outside the village, but has breathtaking views. As far as dinner places I would suggest Clocktower for a VERY casual bar food type of place and Smokeyard BBQ for a good dinner. The nice thing about Smokeyard is they have a good happy hour!
I’m not kidding you that the BEST bar in the WORLD is located in Mammoth. I have been to bars in several states and out of the country. I swear by this… Clocktown is the BEST bar ever. Everything from good drinks, food, atmosphere and people. Don’t believe me? You’ll just have to experience it yourself.
Other than bars, the village puts on so many night life activities and events too. I highly suggest the Silent DJ if that’s going on. We had a blast!! Best night ever. If you want to go over the holidays, I highly recommend it too. The firework show was out of this world. Y’all better than Disney.- not joking!!
What’s the scoop about lift tickets and lessons?
Planning ahead is the best way to net savings on lift tickets. I also suggest going early so you don’t have to wait in a long line either. You can save up to 20 percent by purchasing tickets directly through MammothMountain.com 14 days in advance. If you know you’re going to be a frequent visitor I would suggest getting the season pass as you save money & get a discount on merchandise too.
Lessons from one of Mammoth Mountain’s outstanding team of professional certified instructors would create a lifelong skier/rider out of you. I wish I did this as a kid because my experience was HORRIBLE! Y’all the lessons looked fun and so positive too. The Mammoth Mountain website is also the best way to book a lesson. Whether individual or part of a group, there’s an option for every age and ability level.
What are the top 5 things to do?
trip to a Hot Springs
Catch a Mammoth sunset
Go to Tamarack Lodge
Take advantage of the other “fun” activities
Take the Panorama Gondola to the summit
